The wine was produced well before the Middle Ages. During the Third Crusade in the 1191, the English King Richard I (known as the legendary Lionheart) conquered Cyprus and took it as his possession - said mainly due to his like of the wine and desire to sell it to Europe. After The Knights Templar purchased the island and they renamed it Commandaria, hence the local wine was renamed and used ever since.
Commandaria is truly unique to Cyprus. It is a wine you sure want to try and more likely, to keep as your valued collection.
